WHY HIRE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER?

It is not uncommon for people to think interior design is a fluff service. Is it worth it? So, let’s get real: why would you hire an interior designer? Well, here are our answers to that very question…

ONE: EXPERTISE

Do you hire a plumber expecting them to rewire your home's electrical system?
Do you engage a handyman to manage your landscaping?

If you answered a firm “NO” to both questions, you’re correct; each professional specializes in their respective field. While these examples may seem straightforward, they emphasize the expertise that an interior designer brings to a project. If you lack personal experience in interior design, why would you take on a renovation, remodel, furnishing, or new build without the right team by your side? Each member of your team offers valuable resources and knowledge, all working together to create a beautiful home for you to cherish for years. Your essential team should include an interior designer, an architect (for major remodels or new constructions), and a contractor.

Let’s explore the distinct roles of each:

  • Interior Designer

    • Works directly with the client to design and select every detail before the project starts. Collaborates with the architect to create the layout and optimize space usage, while staying in touch with the contractor to ensure the design is implemented accurately and to address any issues that may arise during construction.

  • Architect

    • Licensed and experienced in drafting plans for remodels and new builds. Ensures that the designs meet building codes and provide a clear roadmap for the contractor to follow during the execution.

  • Contractor

    • Responsible for turning plans into reality. Manages trades, adheres to timelines, oversees permits, constructs the physical structure, and works closely with the interior designer to ensure all details and selections are seamlessly integrated into the home according to the plan.

“This was our 3rd custom build and by far the best experience and least stressful yet. If we ever build again, Motif Homes will be part of our team!” -Shane B.

TWO: PREPARATION

With our established Motif Homes Method, we guide you through the preparation stages to visualize your final design before any work starts. You’ll get a glimpse of what’s ahead through sample selections, 2D drawings, and 3D renderings of your space. Why is this approach vital? Why dedicate so much time to upfront planning? The answer lies in the classic saying, "Fail to plan, plan to fail."

Without collaborating with an interior designer from the beginning, you may find yourself constantly trying to catch up. And we mean constantly. When you hire a contractor without the guidance of a designer, you'll receive a list of places to visit and items to choose from. As you make these selections, the burden of assembling the final design rests on your shoulders, often resulting in overlooked essential elements and details. Work will begin, pulling you into decisions about millwork, tile layouts, door styles, paint colors, lighting placements, and much more. That doesn’t sound enjoyable; it feels more like a full-time job—one that an interior designer could have helped you avoid.

“We really appreciated all the work done behind the scenes and planning, so much planning. There was so much that went into planning there were no surprises as we got into the renovation.” -Erin S.

THREE: REVEAL

As we embark on our clients' journeys, our mission is to create a living space that is comfortable, calm, and fresh—one that can be treasured for years to come. We strive to cultivate lasting memories, instill a sense of safety and rejuvenation, and extend a warm invitation to friends and family for shared meals and relaxing visits. We recognize the significance of providing exceptional hospitality to those we hold dear. Why leave the results to chance with inexperience?

The reveal is always filled with emotion. Our clients have experienced the designs, textiles, and finishes; they've felt the materials, navigated the dust and chaos, and listened to the sounds of construction. They are consistently amazed when they witness their vision come to life. Every. Single. Time. We pour our hearts into each project, forging friendships with our clients along the way. We thrive on revitalizing overlooked and under-appreciated spaces drawn to the chaos because we recognize the potential that exists within. Instead of facing this journey alone, partner with a visionary who can breathe new life into the neglected areas.

“We are SO in love with the results. I love how I feel in these spaces and am so thankful I leaned on the team’s talents and expertise to design these spaces.” - Gwendolyn B.
